2. GENERAL CONDITIONS
The
Host Organization is the producer of the event. In this capacity the
Host is required to do its utmost to gather the necessary means to
organize the Symposium. In order to do so, it may freely solicit any and
all public and private funding organizations, institutions, sponsors and
partners in any country. It also has the right to sales of catalogues,
advertising, derivative products, and entry fees.
The
Symposium is, by its very nature, thoroughly interdisciplinary. An
academic conference is the heart of the event. Concurrently each
Symposium offers great diversity in disciplines and maximum exposure to
new and emerging paradigms. Although the symposia are not festivals per
se, art shows, performances and cognate activities are integral parts of
the event.
The content of the conference program is based on the results of an
international Call for Papers & Participation, selected by an
independent International Program Committee (IPC) that consists of
internationally renowned experts in the field. (See section 5a) The Host
Organization is encouraged to include several invited speakers,
performers, exhibitors, etc. in the program in addition to those
selected through the jurying process.
ISEA’s Board also encourages the Host Organization to incorporate
aspects of local culture history and traditions (as they pertain to arts
and technology) to make every Symposium a unique and rewarding
socio-cultural experience.

Naming and Timing of the Event
The name of the Symposium is "International Symposium on Electronic
Art", preceded by the number (for example 'Tenth'). Abbreviated, the
Symposium is called ISEA (no periods), followed by the year of the
symposium (for example ''ISEA97"). On all symposium announcements, the
symposium must be announced in this way: "ISEA[year], [Number]
International Symposium on Electronic Art". For example: "ISEA2000,
Tenth International Symposium on Electronic Art". This official
name can be followed by a translation in the language of the host
country.
The symposia have been held as both biennial and annual events. Since
1999 they have been held biennially.

following categories:
Category 1: a) Educational institutes (universities, art schools,
museums,
etc.)
b) artistic, cultural or scientific organizations or government
bodies.
Category 2: Congress organizing bureaus. Category 2

2e.
Cultural Diversity
It is ISEA’s goal to develop into a truly international and diverse
community of artists, technologists and critics working in the
electronic arts. To meet this goal symposia shall involve participation
of under-represented groups and diverse communities in as wide a range
of aesthetics and cultures as possible. To this end these Symposium
Guidelines require that:
• Submissions for juried sections of the Symposium (exhibitions,
performances, papers) should include an option to indicate if a
submission is from a member of an under-represented community,
especially if this is relevant to the jurying of the work.
• Submitters who believe that the cultural context of their work
requires additional explanation for proper jurying should be given the
option to provide supplemental materials.
• Juries should include someone who is responsible for insuring that
such work is in fact reviewed in context.
2f. Use of ISEA Name and
Logo
The Host Organization will ensure that the Inter-Society for the
Electronic Arts is mentioned and its logo appears on all published
materials and Internet Web sites related to the symposium. The
host will include the aims of the Inter-society and a membership
application form in the call for papers and participation, the
preliminary program and in the registration materials provided to
delegates of the symposium.

Archives
The term “archives” refers to all audiovisual and printed material
issuing from the symposium. These include, but are not limited to,
support documentation sent with artist submissions, symposium Web site,
symposium catalog, symposium poster, proceedings, promotional material,
and audio-visual documentation of the event. The Host Organization
agrees to give ISEA headquarters these documents (originals or copies)
for the ISEA archives. The artists will be made aware and sign a
release/agreement on the Call for Proposals permitting their material to
be included in the archives. This material will only be used for
ISEA promotion and/or
non-commercial education and research purposes.
2h. Proceedings
The Host Organization agrees to publish illustrated symposium
proceedings, documenting papers and projects as a minimum requirement.
These proceedings will be made available to those attending the event.
The Host Organization will give ISEA headquarters the right to
sell/distribute the symposium publications after the event and create an
archive for public access.
