+ Monday 12  November 2013 – In anticipation of the announcement of various artist residency opportunities that will be offered in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), ISEA2014 will be promoting the symposium at the Art Abu Dhabi Art at the Abu Dhabi Music Art Foundation’s (ADMAF) booth November 20 to 23, 2013. On occasion of this ISEA2014 is extending the submission deadline to Monday, December 9, 2013.

The 20th International Symposium on Electronic Art (ISEA) will be hosted by Zayed University in collaboration with the Dubai Convention and Events Bureau (DCEB) – a division of the Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DTCM). ISEA2014 will also engage with a range of cultural and creative partners in Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah and in the Middle East.

Zayed University announced the launch of ISEA2014 at the 2013 Sikka Art Fair in Bastakia Dubai and we have hosted a range of short and long term artist residencies at our institution over the last year, including Canadian artists Myfanwy Ashmore and her Mouse Hack Workshop and Juliana Espana Kellewr who created a symphony of sound through her project Acoustic Experimental Symphony with Kitchen Appliances. Zayed University students are currently working with sound artist Bill Fontana to realize a project whose outcomes will result in an exhibition later this spring. Naziha Mestaoui, a new media artist from France, has just begun a two-month artist residency in collaboration with Zayed University, French Embassy/Institut Français, and Abu Dhabi Art Hub. She will be researching and developing her project “The Memory of Sand”. Through analysis of traditional dance, technology will be used to explore and interpret this cultural encounter. The work process is inspired by the separation of static positions in chronophotographs by Etienne-Jules Marey, France, and Edward Muybridge, USA.

The Organizing Committee of ISEA2014 will also announce the preliminary list of its International Programming Committee, which will review incoming proposals for the academic paper presentations and artworks. The full list will be posted on the website.

ISEA2014 will be promoting the symposium at the Abu Dhabi Art Fair Abu Dhabi Art this November 20 to 23, at the Abu Dhabi Music Art Foundation’s (ADMAF) booth. Updates regarding artist residencies (pre, post and during the symposium) will also be announced at this time.

We are looking forward to your participation in ISEA2014.
